Which Items Are Manufactured Through Extrusion Profiles In Melbourne?

Extrusion profiles in Melbourne generally mean making of a shaped product that can be a variety of shapes and designs but should not include sheet or film products. It can include solid as well as hollow forms. Items like tubes, window frames, straws, door seals are manufactured through profile extrusion.

For the making of hollow shape, a pin or mandrel is fixed into the die to form hollow sections. Multiple pins are used when multiple hollow sections are needed. To create these hollows, a source of air is required to allow the centre of the product to maintain shape and not collapse in the vacuum. Generally, an air source is used to maintain the shape of the product.

If multiple raw items are used in making the product a process of co-extrusion is used, in which each extruder feeds a different material or variation of the same material into the central extrusion die.

The most common items manufactured by the extrusion process are:

  • Pipes and tubes: The basic cross-section of both these items is round and practically can be of any diameter and thickness.

  • Vinyl sliding: Sides are extruded first into flat sheets and then formed into desired profiles. This process can be used for other items too, in which speed and cost are more important than tight dimensional control.

  • Window profiles: They are one of the most complex profile used to make sash, frames and various other profiles needed to assemble windows.

  • Fences: Hollow structures with internal ribs are made to be used as boards, pickets, and posts to build low maintenance privacy.

These are the main applications of extrusion. Other items are also made through this method.
